How can I increase the treatment and optimisation capacity of my wastewater treatment plant?
This is the question that EMO answered to a cheese factory that treats its process water in a biological treatment plant and wishes to reduce its incoming load on the biological treatment.
The most suitable solution turned out to be the installation of a phyico-chemical flotation unit as a pre-treatment.

EMO got two opportunities to advise one of the Mexican production sites of the LALA group, a major player in the dairy industry on the American continent. A contact established in 2015 with our subsidiary EMO latina for the implementation of a 1st pretreatment solution to treat wastewater from the UHT production line, and then in 2018 from a new production line.
The site of Irapuato, Guanajuato is specialized in the production of UHT milk, derived products (liquid yoghurt) and lactose-free milk.
The effluent is treated by two Dissolved Air Flotation units (DAF) DELTA 75 and DELTA 50 and sent to an aerobic activated sludge biological reactor.

Tomato canning factory was considering the realization of one treatment for its polluted effluents to protect the natural environment and contacted EMO to assist them in their project. Polluting loads were established upon flow in peak period of production, and concentrations in polluting elements result from measurement carried out on rejections coming from a factory having the same type of production.
EMO then recommended to carry out a first phase of work consisting of a thorough pretreatment allowing one reduction of more than 50% of organic pollution (COD and BOD5) and of more than 90% as of Suspended Solids (SS). While waiting for the second phase of work which will allow a higher warranty of treatment between 95% and 98% on organic pollution, the effluents could be used in irrigation of the agricultural parcel located near the factory.
For this first phase of work we selected a solution being integrated as well as possible in the site existing and sufficient leaving place available for the future extensions of the treatment unit.
Second phase consists in the installation of one belt filter press on site to dewater part of collected sludge and to limit the number of journeys made by tank trucks for the evaucation of collected sludge. After the installation of this treatment unit, collected sludge will be dewatered on a belt filter press supplied by EMO. Sludge will then be recycled either for nutritive complement for agriculture, or evacuated to landfill sites. The installation of a belt filter press makes it possible reducing by 3 to 4 the volume to be evacuated. Sludge becomes suitable for shovelling with one concentration around 180 g/l .

EMO closely works with a well renowned mustard maker.
As part of their expansion program, they required to improve and update their sewerage treatment plant.
We determined the following equipment for their site:
– a 500 μ rotary screen at the entrance of the treatment works designed for a capacity to handle 25 m³/h,
– a dissolved air flotation unit (DAF) for the physicochemical pretreatment of effluent downstream biological treatment works,
– a gravity belt thickener alternatively to thicken biological sludge and digested sludge (digestion of the remains of production and raw materials, sieve residue, sludge from flottation unit and biological thickened sludge).
