Sludge stabilisation and hygienisation
Whatever the technical solution chosen to treat wastewater, sludge initially consist of water (99%), fresh organic matter and dissolved or insoluble mineral matters..
According to the use which must be made about it, complementary treatments will be applied :
– to reduce their water content: simple thickening by gravity via partial dewatering (less than 80% of water), until an almost total drying (5 to 10% of water),
– to stabilize the organic matter, by decreasing its fermentability to reduce or even remove the bad smells,
– to disinfect, if necessary, by destroying the pathogenic micro-organisms.
