Sludge which can be conditioned with lime alone are as follows: some industrial sludge coming from treatment of surface, tanneries or drinking water. The use of lime after thickening or dewatering of sludge makes it possible :
- to increase sludge dryness
- to improve sludge structure
- to stabilise sludge : to reduce the fermentability of sludge to attenuate or remove the bad smells
- to disinfect sludge : to reduce to a nondangerous level the presence of all the pathogenic micro-organisms
